Volunteer / paid-on-call firefighters represent the majority of the Ontario fire service (OAFC, 2026), yet often have limited access to mental health and wellness services that are accessible, affordable, and understand the unique challenges. Research suggests that they respond best to programming that is practical, flexible, and relevant to the communities they serve (NFPA, 2026).

General mental health services such as Employee and Family Assistance Programs, and mental health supports for Public Safety Personnel such as Warrior Health, are important parts of the support system, but they aren't designed specifically for volunteer / paid-on-call firefighters.

Scott Wellness Services combines clinical expertise with current lived experience as a paid-on-call firefighter to deliver department-based wellness services. When firefighters and their families see that their instructor understands the culture, the challenges, and the realities of the job, they're often more willing to engage in conversations about mental health and wellness.
